DOLLY PARTON'S IMAGINATION LIBRARY
Sharing the Love of Reading with children in the Blackhawk Region
Enroll your children in Dolly Parton's Imagination Library and we'll send them a FREE BOOK every month until their fifth birthday.
The time you spend reading with your child opens their mind to faraway places, exciting adventures and sets them on the pathway to early literacy and lifelong learning. Read to your child - it's a wise investment in their future and the future of our community.
What is Imagination Library?
It began in 1996 when Dolly Parton launched an initiative to benefit the children of her home county in Tennessee. Her dream was to foster a love of reading among preschoolers and their families. She wanted to ensure that every child would have access to quality books, regardless of their family’s income. This initiative is now a national and global program managed by the Dollywood Foundation and brought to United Way Blackhawk Region.
How does it work?
Children in participating communities can enroll in the program from the day they are born. Once they’re signed up, they receive a new, age-appropriate book through the mail each month until their fifth birthday. In our service area, children who live in Beloit, Edgerton and Janesville are currently eligible to register for the program. However, the number of children who may enroll is limited by the amount of funding available.
Who can receive books?
Any child, birth to age 5 who lives in Beloit, Edgerton or Janesville is eligible to receive books. However, funding is limited. A waiting list will be instituted when enrollment reaches capacity.
